About us
Heritage Tables is a family business begun in 1995. The idea for the Castle
Jigsaw Games Table came about as a result of Thomas, my eldest son,
who was eight at the time, being set a school holiday project to
build a medieval catapult. This was great fun but once we had finished
the trebuchet we both looked at each other and Tom said wouldn’t
it be fun to have a castle to knock down!
We
decided to base the design on Bodiam Castle in East Sussex, a beautiful
14th Century castle.
However, designing it proved more difficult
than we thought. We would spend many evenings and numerous hours,
working late into the night designing the size and shape of each
piece of the puzzle and how they all fitted together.
It was at this point
we had the idea to also make the castle a table - a coffee/games
table for playing chess, backgammon or cards.
But would the castles prove
to be a stack of cards?
It
wasn’t until the time we came to build the prototype did we know
for sure the castle would not simply collapse, topple over and
fall into pieces. But it didn’t. It stood solid strong and beautiful!
This is a result of the design that makes use of the way each
block interlocks with the other interlocking blocks and the weight
of the oak itself.
We decided to take a stand at The Daily Telegraph House and Garden Show
at Olympia and show off the castles to the public! The castles proved
a great hit! All the family were there, my wife Liz, Thomas of course
and his two brothers, Charlie and George and it was fantastic to
see people's smiling
faces when they looked at the Castle Jigsaw Tables.
Both Tom and I are still doing the same show today as well as many other
venues. Please go to our Contact Us page to see where we will be
next.
